Can i Drink Sugar-Free Cola With Diabetes?

It's so hot, it would be nice to have a Coke! But Coke is very high in sugar. Some people have questioned this. Can I drink sugar-free Coke with diabetes?

It is not possible to drink more sugar-free colas with diabetes. Sugar-free cola just means that you don't feel the presence of sugar in terms of taste and think that cola is already unsweetened. However, in reality, sugar-free cola still contains xylitol, as well as caramel, among other ingredients. Sugar-free cola is made sugar-free by means of artificial sweeteners.

At the 2018 EASD (European Association for the Study of Diabetes) annual conference, researchers from Australia unveiled new bad news for people with a persistent sweet tooth - artificial sweeteners can also raise blood sugar, or do so by disrupting intestinal flora! The research shows that artificial sweeteners are the reason for the increase in blood sugar! Research has shown that artificial sweeteners can affect blood sugar problems mainly because they disrupt our gut flora, which further affects metabolism.

The researchers further calculated that the risk of developing type II diabetes increased by 21% with one 200ml glass of sugary soft drink per day, while the risk of developing the disease increased by 18% with one sugar-free soft drink per day. The researchers concluded that sugar-free and sugary drinks are "just as bad" because they may stimulate appetite and make people crave more sugary foods; in addition, artificial sweeteners may cause chemical reactions within the fatty tissues and intestinal bacteria, leading to a deterioration in the body's ability to regulate glucose and triggering type II diabetes.

For the sake of your health, eat less sweet! If you can't give up sweets, at least try to moderate them as much as possible. For people with diabetes, whether you choose "sugar-free" foods or health food, you need to take them in moderation. When consuming them, it is important to include them in your total daily calorie intake.
